چکیده

Various organisms share certain basic rules for a searching behavior. We hypothesize that these rules may emerge from basic properties of nonlinear systems as a whole, rather then being evolved from a scratch gradually. In order to support this hypothesis, we have developed a virtual agent that consists of three simple nonlinear oscillators. These oscillators are driven by an internal noise, which results in phase transitions in their activity. External stimuli modify the activity via sensors and food consumption. The interaction among the activity of oscillators and external influences give rise to an emergence of searching rules that are similar to those shared by various organisms, thus favoring the above hypothesis. The hypothesis can be verified further by investigating various types of nonlinear systems in different environments.

INTEGRATED ADAPTIVE FUZZY CLUSTERING (IAFC) NEURAL NETWORKS USING FUZZY LEARNING RULES

The proposed IAFC neural networks have both stability and plasticity because theyuse a control structure similar to that of the ART-1(Adaptive Resonance Theory) neural network. The unsupervised IAFC neural network is the unsupervised neural network which uses the fuzzyleaky learning rule. This fuzzy leaky learning rule controls the updating amounts by fuzzymembership values. The supervised IAFC ...

Towards Energy Optimization: Emergent Task Allocation in a Swarm of Foraging Robots

This article presents a simple adaptation mechanism to automatically adjust the ratio of foragers to resters (division of labor) in a swarm of foraging robots and hence maximize the net energy income to the swarm. Three adaptation rules are introduced based on local sensing and communications. Individual robots use internal cues (successful food retrieval), environmental cues (collisions with t...

A New Adaptive Extended Kalman Filter for a Class of Nonlinear Systems

This paper proposes a new adaptive extended Kalman filter (AEKF) for a class of nonlinear systems perturbed by noise which is not necessarily additive. The proposed filter is adaptive against the uncertainty in the process and measurement noise covariances. This is accomplished by deriving two recursive updating rules for the noise covariances, these rules are easy to implement and reduce the n...

The emergence of agent-based modeling in economics: Individuals come to bits

Complex adaptive systems theory can be distinguished from complex systems theory in terms of the emphasis the former places on self-organizing agents. This paper uses Simon’s hierarchic view of complex systems as adaptive and self-organizing to frame an explanation of complex adaptive systems as ultimately occupied by individuals understood as ‘basic’ agents. What distinguishes ‘basic’ agents f...

GAME OF COORDINATION FOR BACTERIAL PATTERN FORMATION: A FINITE AUTOMATA MODELLING

In this paper, we use game theory to describe the emergence of self-organization and consequent pattern formation through communicative cooperation in Bacillus subtilis colonies. The emergence of cooperative regime is modelled as an n-player Assurance game, with the bacterial colonies as individual players. The game is played iteratively through cooperative communication, and mediated by exchan...
